Using the HDR (High Dynamic Range) toggle on your Ring device

If you would like greater detail in the brightly lit areas of either the still images or videos taken by your Ring device, you can use the HDR (High Dynamic Range) toggle in your Ring app.

This article will explain what HDR is, how to use it, and answer other frequently asked questions concerning the HDR toggle.

What is HDR?

High Dynamic Range is a camera feature that combines multiple snapshots at different exposures into a single frame to generate an image (or video) that looks more evenly exposed. The result is a more detailed image in which you will be able to pick out smaller details than is possible in an ordinary shot in very brightly lit areas.

Which Ring devices have HDR available?

The following Ring devices currently have an HDR toggle available:

How do I enable HDR on my Ring device?

The HDR toggle can be found in the Ring App. To activate it:

1. Open your Ring app
2. Tap the menu icon ☰ in the top left corner
3. Tap

   Devices
4. Select the device you want to adjust
5. Tap

   Device Settings
6. Tap

   Video

    

   Settings
7. Tap the

   HDR

   toggle button to the blue "on" position

When should I use HDR and when should I turn it off?

You can use HDR to increase daytime image clarity in brightly lit areas. HDR automatically disables at night.

Will using HDR affect my battery life?

Yes. Having HDR toggled on will reduce your device's battery life.
