Using Ring In for Residents

How do I set up Ring In in the Ring app?

Install the Ring app and sign in

Step 1: Download and install the Ring app using one of the links below. If you already have the Ring app, go to Step 2.

Step 2: Sign in to the Ring app using the email address you provided to your property manager/HOA. If that email address is not associated with a Ring account:

  • Create a
    new Ring account
    using the email address you provided to your property manager/HOA
    and sign in, OR
  • Ask your property manager/HOA to delete the email address and add the one associated with your
    existing Ring account
    .

Set up Ring In

  1. Go to the Ring app home screen (Dashboard) and tap the
    menu (≡)
    in the top left corner of your screen.
  2. Tap
    Set Up a Device
    .
  3. Tap
    Locks & Access Devices
    .
  4. Tap
    Ring
    In
    and follow the on-screen instructions.

Note: During setup, when asked Where would you like to set up your In, be sure to select a location where Ring In is installed. If your Ring In location is not listed, select Add a new Location to add it to the list.

I have been added as a Ring In user at more than one property. Do I need to set up Ring In again at the other property?

Yes. You need to set up Ring In separately at all the properties where you've been added as a user by the property manager. Follow the Set up Ring In process mentioned above for each property.

I received an email with instructions for how to set up Ring In in the Ring app, but I do not see a Ring In panel at my property. What should I do?

Even if your property does not have a Ring In panel, you can still use Ring In and the Ring app to let yourself in (see below).

How do I let myself into the property using Ring In?

After setting up Ring In in the Ring app, you will see a Lock icon on the Ring app home screen (Dashboard) along with one of the following labels:

  • Locks
    • Tap
      Locks
      to view the entrances enabled with Ring In, then tap the Lock icon corresponding to the one you want to unlock if there are multiple Ring In-enabled entrances at your property.
  • Front Door/Back Door (or other name)
    • Tap the Lock icon to unlock it if there is one Ring In-enabled entrance at your property.

Note: It may take a few seconds for the Lock icon to appear on your screen. If the icon does not appear, close and re-open the Ring app. If the problem still persists, email Customer Support at ringin-support@amazon.com or call 1-800-915-6251.

How do I view my access history?

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. On the Ring app home screen (Dashboard), tap the
    menu
    in the top left corner.
  3. Tap
    Devices.
  4. Tap the
    entrance
    for which you want to view the access history.
  5. Tap
    Event History
    to view the access history.

Can I view other residents' access history in the Ring app?

No, you can only view your own personal access history.

How do I extend my Ring In service end date?

This is managed by your leasing office or HOA. Please reach out to them directly.

How do I remove myself from Ring In?

Choose one of the following options:

Option 1: Remove yourself from Ring In.

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. On the Ring app home screen (Dashboard), tap the
    menu
    in the top left corner of your screen.
  3. Tap
    Devices.
  4. Tap any Ring In-enabled
    Location.
  5. Tap
    Device Settings.
  6. Tap
    Ring In Settings.
  7. Tap
    Remove In Access
    and follow the on-screen instructions.

Note: Removing your Ring In Access from one Location at your property will automatically remove you from all other Ring In Locations at that property.

Option 2: Have property management remove your access.

Reach out to your property manager or HOA and ask them to remove you from Ring In.

I removed myself from Ring In, but I want to use it again. What should I do?

Ring In usage is managed by your leasing office or HOA. Please reach out to them directly and ask them to reinstate your ability to use Ring In at your property.


The following questions are ONLY applicable to residents of properties with a Ring In panel installed and active.

How do I change my name in the Ring In resident directory?

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. On the Ring app home screen (Dashboard), tap the
    menu
    in the top left corner of your screen.
  3. Tap
    Devices.
  4. Tap
    any Ring In-enabled location.
  5. Tap
    Device Settings.
  6. Tap
    Ring In Settings.
  7. Tap
    Display Names.
  8. Edit the text field to change the name.
  9. Tap
    Save
    in the top right corner of your screen.

How do I hide my name in the Ring In resident directory?

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. On the Ring app home screen (Dashboard), tap the
    menu
    in the top left corner of your screen.
  3. Tap
    Devices.
  4. Tap
    any Ring In-enabled location.
  5. Tap
    Device Settings.
  6. Tap
    Ring In Settings.
  7. Flip the
    Hide Name
    toggle to blue.
    • Note:
      When the toggle is blue, your name will not be displayed in the directory.

How do I hide my unit number in the Ring In resident directory?

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. On the Ring app home screen (Dashboard), tap the
    menu
    in the top left corner of your screen.
  3. Tap
    Devices.
  4. Tap
    any Ring In-enabled location.
  5. Tap
    Device Settings.
  6. Tap
    Ring In Settings.
  7. Flip the
    Hide Unit
    toggle to blue.
    • Note:
      When the toggle is blue, your unit number will not be displayed in the directory.

What are Ring Alerts for Ring In, and how do I turn them on and off?

Ring Alerts are the notifications you receive when a visitor contacts you using a Ring device. To toggle Ring Alerts on or off:

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. On the Ring app home screen (Dashboard), tap the
    menu
    in the top left corner of your screen.
  3. Tap
    Devices.
  4. Tap
    any Ring In enabled location.
  5. To the right of the Lock icon, you will see the toggle for Ring Alerts to toggle it on and off.
    • Note:
      If notifications for the Ring app are turned off in your phone's settings, you'll be prompted to turn them on. Please enable notifications for the Ring app to activate Ring Alerts.

What are Unlock Alerts for Ring In, and how do I turn them on and off?

Unlock Alerts are the notifications you receive when you unlock a Ring In-enabled entrance. To toggle Unlock Alerts on or off:

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. On the Ring app home screen (Dashboard), tap the
    menu
    in the top left corner of your screen.
  3. Tap
    Devices.
  4. Tap
    any Ring In enabled location.
  5. To the right of the Lock icon, you will see the toggle for Unlock Alerts.
  6. Toggle Unlock Alerts on or off.

Why can't I hear sound for my Ring Alerts and Unlock Alerts?

If your Ring and Unlock Alerts are on but you don't hear any sound, try the following steps:

  1. Ensure your phone is not on silent mode, and the volume is turned up.
  2. Confirm that notifications for the Ring app are enabled in your phone’s Settings.

If these are both correct, follow these steps to check your Ring app's alert tones:

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. On the Ring app home screen (Dashboard), tap the
    Menu
    in the top left corner of your screen.
  3. Select
    Devices
    .
  4. Tap
    any Ring In enabled location.
  5. Tap
    Device Settings
    .
  6. Tap
    Notification Settings
    .
  7. Select
    App Alert Tones
    .
  8. Make sure both
    Ring Sounds
    and
    Unlock Sounds
    are set to an audible tone, not "Silent."

I have been using Ring In to let myself into my property, and a new Ring In panel was recently installed. Do I need to take any action?

The Ring In panel offers enhanced benefits to you and visitors to your property. To enjoy these benefits, you must upgrade your Ring app. Tap this link on your mobile phone and follow the on-screen instructions.

  1. Go to the Ring app home screen (Dashboard) and tap the
    menu icon
    (three horizontal lines) in the top left corner of your screen.

  3. Under
    Locks and Access Devices
    , tap any Ring In-enabled entrance (for example, Front Door/Back Door).
  4. Tap
    Device Settings.
  5. Tap
    Ring In Settings.
  6. Tap

After you upgrade your Ring app:

  • Visitors will be able to tap their smartphone on the Ring In panel and select your name/unit number from the resident directory to request access
  • You will be able to speak to and visually verify your visitors before buzzing them in with the Ring app.

How do I provide access to visitors using Ring In?

  1. When a visitor contacts you to request access via Ring In, you will receive a push notification on your phone
  2. Tap the push notification to initiate a 1-way video call with the visitor
  3. Once you visually verify the visitor, swipe the
    Unlock
    icon to unlock the Ring In-enabled entrance.

Using the Ring Unlock Widget

Learn how to add the Ring Unlock widget to your phone or tablet's home screen.

With the Ring Unlock widget, you can quickly Unlock your Ring Intercom and Ring In-enabled entrances with just a tap, right from the home screen of your phone or tablet.

Ring Unlock widgets appear as tiles on your home screen. They display the name and image of the Ring device you select during the widget setup process.

How to set up a Ring Unlock widget

Apple iOS phones and tablets

For iOS, see Apple's How to add and edit widgets on your iPhone article, or follow these steps:

  1. Tap and hold an empty space on your
    home screen
    and wait for the icons to start wiggling.
  2. Tap the
    plus (+) icon
    that appears in the top left corner of your screen, then tap
    Search Widgets
    and type in "Ring."
  3. Scroll through the available Ring widgets until you see the
    Ring Unlock
    widget.
  4. Select the
    Ring
    Unlock
    widget, tap
    Add widget,
    and place the widget where you want it to appear on your home screen.
  5. Open the
    Ring Unlock
    widget, tap
    Choose
    , and select the Ring device you want to use with your widget.

Android OS phones and tablets

  1. Tap and hold an empty space on your
    home screen
    .
  2. Tap
    Widgets
    and type in “Ring” (or press and hold the
    Ring app
    icon
    ,
    then select
    Widgets
    ).
  3. Scroll through the available Ring widgets until you see the
    Ring Unlock
    widget.
  4. Press and hold the
    Ring Unlock
    widget, then place the widget where you want it to appear on your home screen.
  5. Select the Ring device you want to use with your widget.

How to edit a Ring Unlock widget

  1. Tap and hold the widget.
  2. Tap
    Edit Widget
    .
  3. Choose a different Ring-enabled device to use with your widget.
  4. Tap outside the widget to exit.

Note: Have multiple Ring-enabled entrances at your property? Add a new Ring Unlock widget for each entrance you want to quickly unlock with a tap from your home screen.
