Integrating Works With Ring Door Locks with Your Ring Alarm

Ring has the ability to integrate Ring devices (including Ring Alarm) with many different models of Z-Wave smart locks from various manufacturers. Once installed and set up, you'll be able to lock and unlock1 your doors through your Ring app.

What are the benefits of integrating my smart locks with the Ring Alarm system?

Integrating your smart locks with Ring Alarm expands your Ring of Security around the entrances to your home. Once integrated, you can do the following:

  • Lock and unlock
    1
    your door through your app, with a key, or by using PIN codes you can share with friends and family members.
  • In the future, you will be able to arm your Ring Alarm by simply locking the door as you leave or disarm the Alarm by unlocking the door when you get home.

Will the locks integrate with other Ring devices?

Yes, but not at this time. For now, you will need a Ring Alarm in order to integrate your Ring Doorbells and Cams with the locks. In the future, if you have a Ring device, like a Ring Doorbell or Cam, you will be able to control your smart lock1 through the Ring app and even lock or unlock your door while on a live call.

What is S2 security?

Ring Alarm sensors are connected to the Base Station using S2 security, a stronger security layer for Z-Wave devices than the original S0 security. Z-Wave S2 security protocol was introduced in 2018 and uses the Elliptic Curve Diffie-Hellman secure key exchange and AES encryption for all secure communications.

How do I know if my smart lock uses S2 security?

You'll need to check with your lock's manufacturer. Your smart lock's packaging, instruction manual, or Website should indicate whether or not your smart lock uses S2 security.

Does it cost anything to integrate my smart locks with Ring Alarm?

No. Pairing your smart locks with Ring Alarm is completely free. Please make sure your Ring app is updated to complete this process. If you already have a compatible Z-wave smart lock installed in your home, you will be able to add it to your Ring Alarm at no cost.

What locks are compatible with Ring Alarm?

Ring Alarm currently supports more than 35 Z-wave locks from Schlage, Kwikset, and Yale. Ring is currently working on adding more locks to that list and will update neighbors on the Ring.com website and the Add Device section of the Ring app as they become available.

Where is this integration function available?

Smart lock integrations are currently only available in the United States. As Ring Alarm becomes available in other countries, smart lock integrations will become available in accordance with each country’s specific regulations. Ring.com will be updated as soon as Ring Alarm becomes available in your area.

Does Ring Alarm integrate with Amazon Key?

Not at this time.

Does integrating smart locks require a Ring Alarm or a Ring Alarm Base Station?

Yes. Z-Wave devices, including smart locks, need a Z-Wave controller such as the Ring Alarm Base Station to communicate between the locks and Ring Alarm.

Can I use the manufacturer's app to setup or control my smart locks after integration?

Yes. Once a lock is connected to the Ring Alarm base station, users can leverage the Ring app to control their smart locks.1 Some, not all, locks may have a standalone app that can be used in addition to the Ring app. The Ring Alarm base station can only be controlled through the Ring app.
