Troubleshooting Ring Alarm Range Extender

Learn how to fix your Alarm Range Extender if you are experiencing these issues:

  • Poor connection
  • Alarm Range Extender offline

Understanding Alarm Range Extender light patterns

Fixing your Alarm Range Extender connection

If the Ring app reports a poor Z-Wave signal, or your device is falling offline, is unresponsive, or does not power on, try the following:

  • Move the Alarm Range Extender to another known working outlet closer to the Base Station.
  • Press and release the setup or reset button on the Range Extender, and watch for the LED lights.

If the Alarm Range Extender is still experiencing issues, try reconnecting it in the Ring app:

  1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.

  2. Tap the Alarm tile under Devices.

  3. Tap Connected Devices.

  4. Tap the Alarm Range Extender you want to reconnect.
  5. Tap the
    Device Settings
    tile.
  6. Tap
    Advanced Options
    .
  7. Tap
    Retry Connection
    : Follow the prompts in the Ring app to reconnect the Extender to the Alarm Base Station.

If you are still having issues, factory reset your Alarm Range Extender.


Factory resetting your Alarm Range Extender

If your Alarm Range Extender is not performing as expected and other troubleshooting steps have not resolved the issue, factory reset your device. Then reconnect it in the Ring app.

Alarm Range Extender (2nd Gen):

  1. Unplug the Alarm Range Extender.
  2. Use a pin, paperclip, or SIM card ejector to press and hold the pinhole reset button on the back of the device until the LED light on the front blinks red.
  3. When the LED blinks green, it will be ready to add again.

Alarm Range Extender (1st Gen):

  1. Plug in the Alarm Range Extender.
  2. Press and hold the button on the right side of the device until the LED begins blinking blue rapidly.
  3. When the LED blinks blue slowly, it will be ready to add again.

After the Alarm Range Extender has been factory reset, you will need to set it up again in the Ring app. Learn how to set up and use the Ring Alarm Range Extender.
