What is the Neighbors App and who can use it?

Neighbors by Ring is a free app designed to help residents connect with their communities and stay informed about what’s going on around them – whether they are a Ring customer or not. We created Neighbors as a place for residents to share neighborhood updates, safety information, and community news, all aimed at making neighborhoods safer and more connected.

What is Neighbors Verified?

Neighbors Verified provide trusted profiles for public safety agencies, local governments, and community organizations to join the Neighbors App as verified users. Through a free interface, these organizations can engage directly with residents by viewing and commenting on public posts in the feed, and by sharing their own updates to address safety issues, announce community events, and provide real-time information.

Can I use my Neighbors Verified account on my mobile device (i.e. iPhone or Android)?

Yes, Verified Accounts can be accessed on both iPhone and Android smartphones by going to https://publicsafety.ring.com on your smartphone’s browser.

Who can setup a Neighbors Verified account?

Neighbors Verified accounts are available to a range of organizations, including:

  1. Law Enforcement Agencies (Police Departments, Sheriff's Offices)
  2. Fire Departments (Including Fire Marshal’s Offices)
  3. Emergency Management Agencies
  4. Local Government entities and their affiliated departments (e.g. Parks and Recreation, Animal Services, Public Works, Public School Districts, etc)
  5. 501(c)(3) Non-profit organizations (e.g. Animal Shelters, Community Centers, Food Banks, etc)

Will I know how many Ring cameras are located in my jurisdiction while using Neighbors Verified account?

For privacy purposes, Ring does not disclose this information.

Will I know how many residents use Neighbors in my jurisdiction?

For privacy purposes, Ring does not disclose this information.

How can I deactivate my account?

Email Publicsafetysupport@ring.com to request your account be deactivated.

Do I need an official organization email address to sign up for a Neighbors Verified account?

Yes, an official organization email address is required. We do not accept gmail, yahoo, etc.

Can I use the same email address for my Neighbors Verified account and Ring and/or Neighbors App?

Neighbors Verified account users are required to utilize their official organization email address when accessing their verified account. If your official organization email address is currently being used on the Ring/Neighbors App, you will need to update it with your personal email address.

Do all organization users have access to every feature available in my Neighbors Verified account?

No, there are different levels of access. Admins have access to all features, while non-admin users have limited access based on permission types set by their organizations admin.

Can an organization have multiple admin accounts?

Yes

How can my colleagues set up Neighbors Verified account profile?

Please direct your colleagues to your organizations verified account admin(s) to help them create their accounts.

Will I be able to tell how many residents are viewing my posts on Neighbors?

Yes, Neighbors Verified account users can view this information located in their Reporting Dashboard.

How long does it take for an invitation to setup a Verified Account to expire?

Invitations expire after 90 days.

How can I request a new invitation to join my organizations Neighbors Verified account?

If your invitation expired to join your verified account, please reach out to your organizations admin to request a new invitation.

Do posts published in Neighbors go through an approval process before being published?

Yes, any post that violates our Community Guidelines does not make it to the Feed.

Can I edit or delete a post that I've made?

Once a post is published. Verified Users are unable to edit or delete it themselves.

How can I request a post to be removed from the Neighbors App?

How many images can I add into my post?

You can upload up to five images or videos at a time.

What's the max character limit for Posts?

The maximum is 2,500 characters.

What's the upload limit for attaching a file to a post?

Image size must be between 10 KB - 30 MB Video size must be between 2 MB - 30 GB

What file types are supported for attaching a video to a post?

Supported file type is MP4 only.

What file types are supported for attaching a image to a post?

Supported file types are JPG, JPEG, PNG

What will my display name be when I create a post

For posts, your organizations name will be displayed (ex: City of Friendsville ).

Can I send a post outside of my jurisdiction?

No, Verified Accounts can only send post to there Entire Jurisdiction and post to specific locations that falls within their jurisdiction.

What will my display name be when I create a leave a comment?

For comments, your title, last name, and organization name will be displayed (ex: Director Smith - City of Friendsville )

Can I message a resident directly?

No, residents cannot be messaged directly, however you may leave your contact information on any post or comment for residents to reach out.

What's the maximum character limit for comments?

The maximum is 1,000 characters.

Can I filter my feed?

Yes, the Feed can be filtered by time range, area and category (Safety and Security, Community Engagement, Weather, Transportation and Traffic, Wildlife and Environmental issues, Lost and Found Pets, and Ring Team)

Can I see post from residents outside of my jurisdiction?

No, Neighbors Verified accounts can only see what their specific residents voluntarily share into the Neighbors app.

Can I download a video that a resident voluntarily share into the Neighbors app?

No, to download a video, Neighbors Verified account users need to leave a comment on the specific post asking if the poster could download and email the video directly to them.
