Solar Chargers for battery doorbells
Ring Solar Chargers can be mounted behind your doorbell to extend the battery life of your doorbell. With three to four hours of direct sunlight every day, your battery-powered Video Doorbell can stay charged for longer.
The Solar Charger you need depends on which doorbell you have.
- (compatible with Battery Video Doorbell Plus (2nd Gen), Battery Video Doorbell Pro (2nd Gen) and Battery Video Doorbell (2nd Gen)
Solar Charger for Video Doorbell 2 and Solar Charger for Video Doorbell (1st Gen) are discontinued.
Charging
- Ring Solar Chargers require several hours of direct sunlight every day to recharge your device. Ability to recharge and battery life varies based on device settings, motion notifications, and sun exposure in the area of placement.
- Solar Chargers are not ideal for covered porches, and not recommended for use indoors. Indoor light sources will not provide enough energy to charge your doorbell.
- When the battery for the Ring device is over 90% charged, it will no longer take a new charge. Below 90%, it will accept a new charge from the Solar Charger.
- When a Solar Charger is connected to your Ring device, the Device Health page in the Ring app will continue to show that the power source is a battery.

Compatibility and installation
- Your Ring Solar Charger uses either a USB-C connector or a fork connector cable, depending on the Ring doorbell you're connecting it to.
- Solar Chargers use the same wall mounting holes as the existing Ring device and require no additional mounting brackets.
- Solar Chargers are compatible with a Wedge Kit or a Corner Kit. Multiple Wedge Kits or Corner Kits might prevent part of the panel from receiving direct sunlight, limiting its effectiveness.
Firmware updates
If you see the blue light on the front of your Solar Charger flashing on and off, it is installing a firmware update. Give it a few minutes to complete.
Extreme temperatures
If the battery is too hot or too cold, on-board software will keep it from charging in order to avoid damaging the battery. Bring the battery inside and allow it to change to room temperature before trying to recharge the battery. Learn how to troubleshoot your Solar Charger.
