Setting up Alert Tones in the Ring App

Set up different tones in the Ring app for each of your devices so you can distinguish the alert sound of your Video Doorbells from your Security Cameras.

How to set up Alert Tones

  1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.

  2. Tap more (•••) on the camera you want to access.

  3. Tap your device's Settings.

  4. Tap the Device Settings tile.

  5. Tap
    Alert Settings
    .
  6. Tap
    App Alert Tones.

This will bring up all of the available sounds for that device.

  • If you are adjusting a Ring Video Doorbell, you can select one sound for
    Motion Alerts
    and one for doorbell rings.
  • Tap the back button on the top left to go back to the previous menu.

If you have a Ring Chime or Ring Chime Pro, you can also adjust the notifications for those devices to differentiate doorbell rings from Motion Alerts

Alert Tones on iOS Devices

Many Ring Alert Tone sounds are cut off prematurely on iOS devices that run iOS version 16. It is more noticeable for long Ring Alert Tone sounds like "Ring Default (Plays 4x)".

  • This is an iOS limitation and Ring can not resolve this issue.
  • An update to iOS 17 will resolve the issue for individual notifications.
    • On iOS 17, the Alert Tone sounds can still be cut off with multiple notifications.
  • The iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and XS are not compatible with the iOS 17 update.
    • On iOS 16, the Alert Tone sound is always cut off, regardless if the neighbor gets an individual notification or several in a row.
