Feature activation questions

Resolving issues with recording and voicemail For privacy compliance, recording and voicemail require explicit customer opt-in even after subscribing.

  1. You can wait up to one hour for opt-in prompt card to appear in the Ring app.
  2. Tap the card and enable Recording then configure a Voicemail greeting.

Alternatively, you can manually enable these by navigating to your Privacy and Voicemail Settings in the Ring app.

Do Visitor Snapshots and Video Preview Alerts require opt-in too?

No. For Ring Intercom Audio devices, these features work immediately after subscribing with no additional setup.

How long does the opt-in prompt card take to appear after subscribing?

The opt-in card can take up to one hour to appear. You can manually enable features through the Device Settings in the Ring app instead of waiting.

Trial banner displays but no subscription features are available in the Ring app

This can happen during a brief synchronization window between trial activation and feature flag enablement. The synchronization should be completed, and features should be available within one hour. If you have recently enrolled, you should:

  1. Make sure your Ring app is up to date with the latest version.
  2. Close and reopen the Ring app.
  3. Wait an additional 30 to 60 minutes.
  4. If not resolved after two hours,
    for assistance.

Recording and privacy information

  • Brand new users after March 4, 2026: Must give consent during device setup; Recording is toggled on by default but requires explicit consent during device setup.
  • Existing users who subscribe: Recording toggled off by default; must explicitly opt in via prompt card or through the Device Settings in the Ring app.
  • Voicemail (Quick Replies) requires recording to be enabled because visitor messages are recorded.

If you do not opt into recording, it will remain disabled. Other subscription features such as voicemail, Visitor Snapshots and Video Preview Alerts still work. You can enable recording anytime through the Privacy Settings in the Ring app.

Voicemail & Building Handset

Will enabling Voicemail affect my building's intercom handset?

In some buildings — particularly those with digital intercom systems — enabling Voicemail may interrupt your original building handset during calls. To avoid this, we recommend keeping Voicemail OFF if you rely on your building handset to answer visitors.

Important note: If you plan to use your original building handset, we recommend keeping Voicemail OFF to avoid potential interruptions during conversations. This is especially important for digital intercom systems.

Can I use Voicemail without turning on Recording?

No. Because Voicemail saves visitor messages as recordings, Recording must be enabled for Voicemail to work. Both can be turned on together through the app prompt or Device Settings.
