Active Warnings

Active Warnings is a Ring feature that delivers automated, real-time verbal warnings through your Ring cameras when a person is detected on your property. Active Warnings is available with Ring Pro, Virtual Security Guard, and Pro Intelligence subscriptions.

  • Active Warnings cannot be used with Alexa+ Greetings or on devices with end-to-end encryption enabled
  • This feature is unavailable to customers in Illinois due to state-specific legislation

How does Active Warnings work with Virtual Security Guard

Active Warnings works with Virtual Security Guard to help deter activity sooner. When a person is detected, the system responds in two stages:

  1. Active Warnings delivers an automated verbal warning immediately.
  2. A live security agent reviews the activity and escalates if needed.

Active Warnings follows any existing Snooze and pause settings for those devices, as well as Watch Zone boundaries.

Important note: Virtual Security Guard agents have the ability to override automated warnings.

You can access Active Warnings settings from three locations in the Ring app:

  • Pro Features
    in the main menu.
  • Smart Responses
    in Device Settings.
  • Modes and Automation
    in Monitoring Settings.

How to configure recommended mode settings

To prevent unnecessary warnings, Ring recommends starting with these mode settings and customizing based on your needs:

To adjust your mode settings:

  1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.
  2. Tap the menu (☰).
  3. Tap

    Away

    Disarmed

  7. Choose which cameras should deliver Active Warnings in that mode.

Frequently asked questions

Does Active Warnings work when I am home?

Active Warnings only works when Modes are activated. If your mode is set to Disarmed, no warnings will be delivered. Set your Home mode to activate outdoor cameras if you want warnings while you are home.

Can I customize the verbal warning message?

Active Warnings delivers a pre-set automated verbal warning. Custom messages are not available at this time.

Will Active Warnings trigger for animals or vehicles?

No. Active Warnings requires Person Detection to be enabled and only activates when a person is detected within your configured Watch Zones.
