Troubleshooting and light patterns for Ring Smart Fan Control
Ring Smart Fan Control lets you control your ceiling fan remotely. Use this article to troubleshoot common issues and identify LED light patterns.
Troubleshooting
Issues scanning the QR code
- Make sure your mobile device operating system (OS) is up to date.
- Make sure the camera lens on your mobile device is clean and free of debris.
- Make sure the QR code on Smart Fan Control is not damaged, dirty, or covered in debris. Wipe it with a damp cloth or paper towel if needed.
- Make sure there is proper lighting in the room. If the room is dark, turn up the lights or move to a more well-lit area.
- If the in-app QR scan continues to fail, use your mobile device's native camera to scan the QR code. This will open the Ring app with the QR code already scanned.
- If these steps do not resolve the issue, contact Ring Customer Support.
- The QR code is on the back of Smart Fan Control. Scan it before installation or keep the paper insert that has the QR code printed on it for future reference.
Resolve software update failures
- Update your mobile device operating system (OS). Software updates use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and require a current OS version.
- Stay within one to five feet of Smart Fan Control during the update. BLE is short-range.
- Make sure Smart Fan Control has power. Confirm the orange LED on Smart Fan Control is lit.
- If the issue persists, contact Ring Customer Support for further assistance.
Smart Fan Control is stuck in Waiting to Join
If Smart Fan Control remains in a Waiting to Join state for five minutes or more:
- Make sure Smart Fan Control has power. Confirm the orange LED on Smart Fan Control is lit.
- If you have a supported Sidewalk bridge or gateway nearby, move Smart Fan Control closer to it.
Key reminders
- The QR code is on the back of Smart Fan Control. Keep the paper insert from the box in case you need to remove and re-add Smart Fan Control in the future.
- Smart Fan Control must be wired in before setup. Follow the in-box guide for wiring instructions.
- Commands sent to Smart Fan Control might not be instantaneous. Some latency is expected due to the Amazon Sidewalk network.
- Use the air gap slide at the bottom of Smart Fan Control to cut power to the fan without disconnecting from line power.
- The device serial number (DSN) is located on Smart Fan Control label.
- Fans with RF remotes might experience control conflicts if both the remote and Fan Switch are used for speed control. For best results, choose one control method.
- Set the fan remote to its highest speed and leave it. From there, use the Fan Switch to make all speed adjustments.
- Use the Fan Switch only to turn the fan on or off. Do not use the Fan Switch to adjust fan speed. Keep the Fan Switch set to off or high only.
