Car Alarm: Incompatible vehicles and accessories

Ring Car Alarm connects to your vehicle's On-Board Diagnostics II (OBD-II) port to provide security alerts. Some vehicles and third-party accessories are not compatible with Car Alarm because they lack a standard OBD-II port or interfere with the device's connection.

What to know

  • Requirement:
    Your vehicle must have a standard OBD-II port.
  • OBD-II port location:
    Under the dashboard in the driver or passenger footwell. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual for the exact location and instructions on removing any panel coverings.
  • Incompatible vehicles:
    BMW i3, all Lucid models, Polestar 2, Polestar 4, all Tesla models, Volvo EX30 EV, and all vehicles manufactured before 1996.
  • Incompatible accessories:
    All third-party OBD-II accessories, including Bluetooth adapters, pass-through cables, and splitters.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a splitter to connect Car Alarm and another OBD-II device at the same time?

No. Ring does not recommend using splitters or any third-party OBD-II accessories with Car Alarm. These accessories can prevent Car Alarm from functioning. Refer to the "Which accessories are incompatible with Car Alarm?" section for the full list.

My vehicle is not on the incompatible list. Is it guaranteed to work?

If your vehicle was manufactured in 1996 or later and has a standard OBD-II port, Car Alarm should be compatible.
