Troubleshooting Ring Alarm device setup
Learn how to troubleshoot the following issues when setting up Ring Alarm devices:
- Alarm devices are not pairing with your Base Station
- Scanning the QR code
- Alarm kit items or bundled Alarm devices are not connecting

Alarm devices are not pairing with your Base Station
If your Alarm devices are not pairing with your Base Station, try the following before attempting setup again:
- Make sure your Base Station is active in the Ring app.
- Bring the Alarm device closer to the Base Station.
- Press the device’s setup button once (if available).
- Power on only one Alarm device at a time for setup. Unplug and remove batteries from other Alarm devices that have not been set up yet.
- Replace the batteries with new or known working batteries.
- Reboot the device by removing the batteries or unplugging it from its power source.
- Check that the batteries are inserted in the correct direction.
- Make sure the power source is compatible with your Alarm device.
Scanning the QR code
- If the QR code is not scanning, make sure you have enough lighting and the QR code is in focus.
- TapNot working?at the bottom of the scanning screen to enter a PIN instead. You can find the 5-digit PIN under the QR code of your device and on the box the device came in.
Alarm kit items or bundled Alarm devices are not connecting
If multiple Alarm devices have their battery tabs removed or power on during setup, they will conflict with each other, and the Base Station won't be able to add them automatically.
If you have pre-pulled the battery tabs:
- Remove the batteries from any Alarm devices you are setting up.
Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.
Tap the Alarm tile under Devices.
- Tap the Alarm device you are setting up, and follow the instructions.
- When the Ring app tells you to remove the battery tab, insert batteries into only the device you're currently setting up.
- Follow the prompts in the Ring app to complete setup.
If Alarm devices that come with your kit or bundle do not automatically pair when powered on, you might need to set them up manually or troubleshoot them individually.
