Troubleshooting your Ring Alarm Keypad (2nd Generation)
Follow these steps to help resolve issues with your Ring Alarm Keypad (2nd Generation).

Ring Alarm Keypad (2nd Generation) modes
The Ring Alarm Keypad (2nd Generation) allows you to choose between three modes:
- Keep Mode LED On.The current mode button light stays lit at all times (when plugged into a working power source).
- Motion Turns on Lights.The keypad lights up when sensing motion.
- Button Press Turns on Lights.The keypad lights up only when you press a button on your Keypad (preserves battery power).
To change mode settings:
- Open the Ring app.
- TapDevices.
- TapKeypad 2nd Gen.
- Tap theLED Settingstile.
- TapLED Patterns.
If Keep Mode LED On is chosen but the Keypad (2nd Generation) is unplugged, the Keypad will perform as if Motion Detection has been chosen to preserve battery power.
If your Keypad (2nd Generation) won’t connect
- Unplug the Keypad from your power outlet and then plug it in again. If this doesn't work, move the Keypad closer to the Base Station and plug it in. You may have to use a.
- If nothing happens, tap the pinhole reset button on the back of your Keypad using the pinhole tool provided or a paperclip.
- if it won't connect. When it is attempting to pair (listening), press and hold the 1 key on the Keypad.
How to remove your Keypad (2nd Generation)
You might have to remove your Keypad and then re-add it to your Ring Alarm.
To remove the Keypad:
- Unplug the Keypad.
- Open the Ring app.
- Tapmenu(☰).
- TapDevices
- TapKeypad 2nd Gen.
- Tap theDevice Settingstile.
- TapRemoveat the bottom of the screen.
- On the next screen tapRemoveagain.
- TapGot itonce your Keypad is successfully removed.
The app will let you know the device was removed. You can leave the Keypad unplugged until ready to set up again.
To re-add the Keypad:
- Open the Ring app.
- Tapmenu(☰).
- TapSet Up a Device.
- TapSecurity.
- TapKeypads.
- TapKeypad (2nd Generation).
- Follow the onscreen instructions by scanning the QR code on the Keypadorentering the 5-digit PIN code.
You’ll receive confirmation that the Keypad was added successfully. If not, choose the option to “Try Again.”
If your Ring Alarm Keypad (2nd Generation) still won't connect
- Unplug the Keypad.
- Open the Ring app.
- Tapmenu (☰).
- TapDevices.
- TapAlarm Base Station.
- TapBase Station.
- TapDevice Settings(the gear icon), then tapAdvanced Options. TapZ-Wave, then tapRemove Z-Wave Device.ImportantDo not tap “Reset Z-Wave Network”. This will remove your entire Ring Alarm network and you’ll need to reset every device.
- TapRemoveand the app will say “Removing device, Listening for device to remove.”
- Push the pinhole reset button. The device should be removed and can now be setup again in the Ring app.
How to factory reset your Keypad (2nd Generation)
Important: This will remove device settings such as chirps and volume adjustments and reset the device back to the original default settings.
If you've tried all of the above steps and you're still having difficulty with your Keypad, you can try to factory reset this device.
To factory reset your Keypad, press and hold the pinhole reset button in the back of the Keypad for 10 seconds, until it flashes red.
