Daily Highlights

Daily Highlights is an intelligent feature in Ring Labs that delivers daily video recaps to surface the most important activity across all your Ring devices at a single location. Instead of scrolling through individual events, now you can watch a short montage of your events that answers, "What happened today?".

What Daily Highlights does

Watch your day in seconds

  • Daily video recaps:
    Recaps are intelligently curated video montages that cover the previous 24 hours of activity across your property. Recap videos can be 10 to 60 seconds depending on the amount of noteworthy activity at your location.
    • On days with fewer than five total events, no recap will be generated.
    • On less active days, Daily Highlights will still generate a recap showing routine activity to keep you informed.
  • Voice narration:
    Recaps include intelligently generated voice narration that reads a summary of your day's activity over the video clips.
  • Daily recap summary:
    Descriptive summaries of what happened for all the activity across your property that day.

    : Noteworthy events are highlighted first, followed by other events. On quiet days, routine activity is still included, so you always have a recap.

Eligibility and requirements

  • A Ring Pro, Virtual Security Guard

    , Pro Intelligence add-on subscription or a 30-day trial is required to use Daily Highlights.
  • Video Descriptions

    must be enabled.
  • Daily Highlights is available across the United States excluding the state of Illinois, and Canada.
  • Available to all Ring video doorbells and cameras except for the Ring Car Cam and Ring devices with end-to-end encryption enabled.
  • Voice narration and Video Descriptions

    are available in English only.
  • You must be an account owner with a single location. Shared Users cannot use or view recaps.

Setting up Daily Highlights

Daily Highlights uses the Video Descriptions 3 feature to analyze footage and generate recaps. Intelligent descriptions might occasionally be incorrect. Always verify important information by reviewing actual video footage.

Daily Highlights is available through Ring Labs. To enable Daily Highlights in the Ring app:

  1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.
  2. Tap the menu (☰).
  3. Tap
    Ring Labs
    .
  4. Find
    Daily Highlights
    under available features and toggle
    Daily Highlights
    on.
  5. Review the permission screen
    Allow Ring to Process Videos
    that explains:
    • What Daily Highlights does.
    • Video Descriptions
      3
      will be enabled for eligible cameras at your current location.
  6. Tap
    Allow
    to proceed.
  7. Select which devices to include.
  8. Tap
    Turn On
    .

Important note: When you enable Daily Highlights, Video Descriptions 3 will be enabled for all selected cameras. Your video footage will be analyzed to generate your first recap which can take up to 24 hours for initial setup.

Using Daily Highlights

Accessing your recap

Daily Highlights is currently available in the Ring mobile app only and can be accessed from:

  • Event History
    : Daily Highlights appear at the top of your Event History feed.
  • Ring Labs page
    : Use the
    Open Daily Highlights
    button.

You will need to tap the Highlight to open the full-screen video recap with montage and narrative descriptions. To refresh and check for new clips, you will need to pull down on the feed. To share your feedback with Ring, tap the Feedback button.

What you'll see

Each Daily Highlight includes:

  • A video recap of the most important events from the past 24 hours with intelligent voice narration.
  • A summary of the day's activity which is shown in a playback view.
  • An Event Detail list below the video recap, that displays thumbnails with timestamps and descriptions for each clip organized into:
  • Noteworthy events such as unusual activity, packages, people, vehicles, and animals.
  • Other events such as regular motion.
  • Tapping a thumbnail from this list will jump you to that specific clip in the video.
  • If a recap cannot be generated, you will see a message that states: "Unable to generate recap. View events manually".

Managing Daily Highlights

  • Delete a highlight:
    Tap the options menu on a highlight and tap
    Delete

    • A confirmation dialog will explain that deleting the highlight does not delete your original events in Event History.
    • If you delete a source event from Event History that was included in a Daily Highlight, the entire highlight for that day will be removed.
  • Change included devices:
    Go to
    Ring Labs,
    then tap the
    Daily Highlights
    settings to update which cameras are included.
  • Disabling Daily Highlights:
    Go to
    Ring Labs
    , then toggle
    Daily Highlights
    off.
    • Video Descriptions remains enabled unless disabled separately.

Privacy, data and limitations

  • This feature uses Video Descriptions
    3
    metadata and requires an explicit opt-in.
  • No gender, appearance descriptions, or personally identifiable information will be collected.
  • You can control which cameras are included by selecting devices during setup.
  • Daily Highlights are only available to Ring devices at a single location. Daily recaps are not available when viewing All Locations or All Cameras.
  • Daily Highlights will only analyze events with Video Descriptions

    , not continuous 24/7 recordings.

Daily Highlights limitations:

  • This feature cannot access your live video.
  • Recaps cannot be generated without Video Descriptions
    3
    enabled.
  • Shared users cannot use Daily Highlights or review recaps.
