Troubleshooting and light patterns for Ring Temperature and Humidity Sensor

Ring Temperature and Humidity Sensor monitors temperature and humidity levels in your home. Use this article to troubleshoot common issues and identify LED light patterns.

Troubleshooting

Issues scanning the QR code

  • Make sure your mobile device operating system (OS) is up to date.
  • Make sure the camera lens on your mobile device is clean and free of debris.
  • Make sure the QR code on Temperature and Humidity Sensor is not damaged, dirty, or covered in debris. Wipe it with a damp cloth or paper towel if needed.
  • Make sure there is proper lighting in the room. If the room is dark, turn up the lights or move to a more well-lit area.
  • If the in-app QR scan continues to fail, use your mobile device's native camera to scan the QR code. This will open the Ring app with the QR code already scanned.
  • If these steps do not resolve the issue, contact Ring Customer Support.

Resolve software update failures

  • Update your mobile device operating system (OS). Software updates use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and require a current OS version.
  • Stay within one to five feet of Temperature and Humidity Sensor during the update. BLE is short-range.
  • Install fresh batteries. If Temperature and Humidity Sensor was previously set up, replace the batteries and try again.
  • Power cycle Temperature and Humidity Sensor: Remove the batteries, wait 10 seconds, re-insert them, and try again.
  • If the issue persists, contact Ring Customer Support for further assistance.

Temperature and Humidity Sensor is stuck in Waiting to Join

If Temperature and Humidity Sensor remains in a Waiting to Join state for five minutes or more:

  • Make sure Temperature and Humidity Sensor has fresh batteries. If Indoor Temperature and Humidity Sensor is new, the batteries should be fully charged. If it was previously set up, replace the batteries and try again.
  • Power cycle Temperature and Humidity Sensor: Remove the batteries, wait 10 seconds, re-insert them, and try again.
  • If you have a supported Sidewalk bridge or gateway nearby, move Temperature and Humidity Sensor closer to it.

Temperature and Humidity Sensor goes offline

If Temperature and Humidity Sensor shows as offline in the Ring app:

  • Make sure Temperature and Humidity Sensor has fresh batteries. Replace the batteries and try again.
  • Power cycle Temperature and Humidity Sensor: Remove the batteries, wait 10 seconds, re-insert them, and try again.
  • If the issue persists, contact Ring Customer Support.

Temperature and Humidity Sensor is not reporting on a regular basis

  • Temperature and Humidity Sensor reports hourly, though reporting might not occur exactly on the hour. Temperature and Humidity Sensor also reports temperature immediately if it changes by ±2°F (±1°C), and humidity immediately if it changes by ±5%.
  • Check your signal strength and follow the troubleshooting steps in the Device goes offline section if Temperature and Humidity Sensor is not reporting.
  • If readings are not updating, power cycle Temperature and Humidity Sensor: Remove the batteries, wait 10 seconds, re-insert them, and try again.
  • If the issue persists, contact Ring Customer Support.

Temperature or humidity thresholds are not changing

  • Check your signal strength and follow the troubleshooting steps in the Device goes offline section if needed.
  • Open the Ring app, go to Device Settings, and confirm your threshold changes appear in the Ring app. If they do not appear in the app, contact Ring Customer Support.
  • If Temperature and Humidity Sensor has poor Amazon Sidewalk connectivity, changes to temperature or humidity thresholds might take longer to apply and the app might show a loading circle until the connection improves.

Key reminders

Temperature and Humidity Sensor serial number (DSN) is located under the batteries. Remove the batteries to find it.

  • Place Temperature and Humidity Sensor away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and air conditioning vents for accurate readings.
  • Temperature and Humidity Sensor operates in temperatures between 32°F (0°C) and 104°F (40°C).
  • If readings appear inaccurate, allow Temperature and Humidity Sensor to acclimate for 30 minutes after placement or battery replacement.
  • Temperature and humidity can vary depending on how far away Temperature and Humidity Sensor is from the thermostat.
  • Temperature and Humidity Sensor has a temperature accuracy of ±0.81°F (±0.45°C) and humidity accuracy of ±4.5%.
  • Temperature: High 78.1°F (25.6°C) and Low 39.9°F (4.4°C)
  • Humidity: High 60% and Low 30%
