Wired Doorbell Pro (3rd Gen) mounted on an external surface of a modern home.

Chime Kit Mini information

Ring Chime Kit Mini is a compact speaker that works with your Ring doorbell to play a sound inside your home when someone presses your doorbell. It replaces your existing mechanical or digital chime and optimizes power delivery to Ring 2K and 4K doorbells.

What to know

  • Chime Kit Mini offers a single ringtone option.
  • Without Chime Kit Mini, you will not hear your doorbell inside your home unless you use a Ring Chime, Ring Chime Pro, or Alexa-enabled device (sold separately).
  • Chime Kit Mini cannot be used with a Ring Plug-In Adapter.
  • The Power over Ethernet (PoE) version of Wired Doorbell Pro (3rd Gen) does not require Chime Kit Mini and can connect to your existing internal chime.

How to bypass your internal chime without Chime Kit Mini

If you choose not to install Chime Kit Mini, you still need to bypass your internal chime and connect your doorbell directly to your transformer.

To bypass your internal chime:

  1. Turn off power at the circuit breaker.
  2. Disconnect the
    TRANS
    and
    FRONT
    wires from your chime.
  3. Connect the
    TRANS
    and
    FRONT
wires together using one of the included wire nuts.

How to upgrade from an older Ring doorbell with a Pro Power Kit

If you are upgrading from an older Ring doorbell to a 2K or 4K Ring doorbell and have a Pro Power Kit installed, you need to remove the Pro Power Kit and use wire nuts instead.

To remove the Pro Power Kit wiring:

  1. Turn off power at the circuit breaker.
  2. Remove the wires from the chime screws.
  3. Connect the wires together using the included wire nuts.
    • Do not use the chime screws to connect the wires.

Using a Plug-In Adapter with a 2K or 4K doorbell

Chime Kit Mini is not compatible with a Ring Plug-In Adapter and will not connect to your in-home chime. If you use a Plug-In Adapter to power your doorbell, you must use one of the following to hear an audible chime:

  • Ring Chime (sold separately)
  • Ring Chime Pro (sold separately)
  • Amazon Alexa-enabled device (sold separately)

If you use a Plug-In Adapter with your existing doorbell system, you still need to bypass your internal chime:

  1. Turn off power at the circuit breaker.
  2. Disconnect the
    TRANS
    and
    FRONT
    wires from your chime.
  3. Connect the
    TRANS
    and
    FRONT
wires together using one of the included wire nuts.

Chime Kit Mini installed but no sound

If you installed Chime Kit Mini but cannot hear a chime when your doorbell is pressed, check the following:

  1. Check your doorbell wiring and Chime Kit Mini wiring to make sure all connections are secure.
  2. Confirm that power has been restored at the circuit breaker.
  3. Consult an electrician if your doorbell is not getting enough power.

How to keep a second doorbell connected to your existing chime

If you have a second doorbell that you want to keep using with your existing chime, you can connect Chime Kit Mini while leaving the second doorbell's chime connection intact.

To connect Chime Kit Mini with a second doorbell:

  1. Leave the
    TRANS
    wire connected to your chime.
  2. Attach one of the Chime Kit Mini wires to the
    TRANS
    screw on your chime.
  3. Disconnect the
    FRONT
    wire from your chime.
  4. Connect the
    FRONT
wire directly to Chime Kit Mini using one of the included wire nuts.
