Chime Kit Mini information
Ring Chime Kit Mini is a compact speaker that works with your Ring doorbell to play a sound inside your home when someone presses your doorbell. It replaces your existing in-home chime and optimizes power delivery to Ring 2K and 4K doorbells.
What to know
- Chime Kit Mini replaces your in-home chime functionality. You can also use a Ring Chime, Ring Chime Pro, or an Alexa-enabled device (sold separately).
- Chime Kit Mini offers a single ringtone option.
- Chime Kit Mini cannot be used with a Ring Plug-In Adapter.
- The Power over Ethernet (PoE) version of your Wired Doorbell Pro (3rd Gen) can connect to your existing internal chime and does not require Chime Kit Mini.
Which doorbells require Chime Kit Mini
Chime Kit Mini is included with the following devices and is required for installation:
- Wired Doorbell Plus (2ndGen)
- Wired Doorbell Pro (3rdGen), wired installation only
Chime Kit Mini is not required for:
- Wired Doorbell Pro (3rdGen), PoE installation
- All other Ring doorbells

What happens to your in-home chime after installing Chime Kit Mini
After installation, Chime Kit Mini bypasses your existing in-home chime and replaces its functionality with a single chime sound when your doorbell is pressed.
For customizable chime sounds, you can use a Ring Chime, Ring Chime Plus, or an Alexa-enabled device, sold separately.
How to install Chime Kit Mini or bypass your chime
For your doorbell to work properly, install the included Chime Kit Mini or bypass your existing chime by connecting the FRONT and TRANS wires together with an included wire nut.

Chime Kit Mini cannot be used with a Ring Plug-In Adapter. If your home has more than one chime, each additional chime that is not connected to another doorbell must be bypassed individually.
How to install Chime Kit Mini when a second doorbell shares your chime
If two doorbells are wired to the same chime, you can install Chime Kit Mini for your new doorbell while keeping the second doorbell connected to the existing chime.
Important note: These steps assume your doorbell is wired to the FRONT terminal on your chime. Check your wiring before starting installation to confirm which terminal each doorbell is connected to.
- Leave theTRANSwire connected to your chime.
- Attach one of the Chime Kit Mini wires to theTRANSscrew on your chime.
- Disconnect theFRONTwire from your chime.
- Connect theFRONTwire directly to Chime Kit Mini using one of the included wire nuts.
How to bypass your internal chime without Chime Kit Mini
If you choose not to install Chime Kit Mini, you must bypass your internal chime to connect your doorbell directly to your transformer.
- Turn off power at the circuit breaker.
- Disconnect theTRANSandFRONTwires from your chime.
- Connect theTRANSandFRONTwires together using one of the included wire nuts.
How to upgrade from an older Ring doorbell with a Pro Power Kit
If you are upgrading from an older Ring doorbell to Wired Doorbell Plus (2nd Gen) or Wired Doorbell Pro (3rd Gen) and have a Pro Power Kit installed, you must remove the Pro Power Kit before installing Chime Kit Mini.
- Turn off power at the circuit breaker.
- Remove the Pro Power Kit from your chime by disconnecting the wires from the chime screws.
- Do not use the chime screws to reconnect the wires.
- After removing the Pro Power Kit, install Chime Kit Mini or bypass your chime.

How to use a Plug-In Adapter with Wired Doorbell Plus or Wired Doorbell Pro
Chime Kit Mini is not compatible with a Ring Plug-In Adapter. If you use a Plug-In Adapter to power your doorbell, you must use one of the following to hear a chime inside your home:
- Ring Chime, sold separately
- Ring Chime Plus, sold separately
- Amazon Alexa-enabled device, sold separately
If you use a Plug-In Adapter and you also have an in-home chime, you still need to bypass your internal chime:
- Turn off power at the circuit breaker.
- Disconnect theTRANSandFRONTwires from your chime.
- Connect theTRANSandFRONTwires together using one of the included wire nuts.
Troubleshooting
Chime Kit Mini installed but no sound is heard
If Chime Kit Mini is installed but you do not hear a chime when your doorbell is pressed, your wiring connections might be loose or power might not be restored.
- Check your doorbell wiring and Chime Kit Mini wiring to confirm all connections are secure.
- Confirm that power has been restored at the circuit breaker.
- Consult an electrician if your doorbell is not receiving sufficient power.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use my existing in-home chime with Wired Doorbell Plus (2nd Gen) or Wired Doorbell Pro (3rd Gen)?
No. These doorbells require Chime Kit Mini, which bypasses and replaces your existing in-home chime. Your original chime will not produce sound after installation.
Can I change the ringtone on Chime Kit Mini?
No. Chime Kit Mini produces a single preset ringtone. For customizable chime sounds, use a Ring Chime, Ring Chime Pro, or an Alexa-enabled device.
What if I have multiple internal chimes in my home?
Each additional chime must be bypassed by disconnecting the FRONT and TRANS wires and connecting them together with a wire nut. Only one Chime Kit Mini is needed per doorbell.
