  • This is commonly caused by a 5 GHz-only or dual-band router, a weak signal at the Ring Intercom, or general wifi instability.

Resolution steps:

  1. Verify that the wifi connection is 2.4 GHz. If you have a 5 GHz or a combined dual-band network, separate the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands or create a 2.4 GHz guest network for Ring Intercom in your router settings. Contact your internet service provider (ISP) if you need help accessing or changing your router settings.
  2. In the Ring app, review your device’s received signal strength indicator (RSSI). If the indicator is orange or red, move your router closer to the Ring Intercom or use a wifi extender.
  3. Set up Ring Intercom using a mobile hotspot on a second mobile device to rule out potential home wifi issues.
  4. Use your mobile device at the lobby panel to check wifi connectivity. If the signal is weak or unavailable at the lobby, switch to mobile data while completing that portion of the setup.

  4. For analogue handsets, look at the terminal where the Ring Intercom’s A-6 or C-6 wire is connected. If there is no existing wire in that terminal, you might have an external chime that requires additional configuration. Contact Ring Customer Support for guidance.

Resolving persistent detection failure

Issue and possible causes: Persistent incoming call detection failure on first setup attempt on all handset types. Setup might not have been completed correctly on the first attempt, or a step might have been missed or timed out. Rerunning setup from scratch often resolves this.

  1. Remove Ring Intercom from the Ring app, then follow the in-app prompts to set up the device again from the beginning.
  2. During the new setup, wait five seconds at each stage when prompted by the Ring app.
  3. During the last stage of setup, press the doorbell button several times.
