How to check door compatibility before installing Peephole Cam 2K

Peephole Cam 2K fits doors with a peephole diameter of 12 to 14 mm and a door thickness of 3.25 to 6 cm. When checking your door, make sure the back is clear of obstructions such as a letterbox or old doorbells within the area where Peephole Cam 2K will be mounted.

How to identify your peephole type

The most common peepholes are simple barrel designs with notches on the rim of the inside portion. Look for these notches on your peephole. They indicate that it can be unscrewed using the included spin tool.

Compatible peepholes:

  1. Barrel design with visible notches on the inner rim
  2. Standard diameter of 12 to 14 mm

Incompatible peepholes:

  1. Peepholes without notches or grooves on the inner rim
  2. Peepholes that are glued, cemented, or permanently fixed into the door
  3. Peepholes with a diameter smaller than 12 mm or larger than 14 mm

If the front and back pieces feel loose or disconnected

If the front and back pieces of Peephole Cam 2K feel like they are separating, or Peephole Cam 2K feels unstable on the door, the small cable inside the tube that connects the two halves may need to be reseated.

  1. If a small cap covers the cable port inside the tube, pull it off before routing the cable.
  2. Gently pull the cable out until there is no slack remaining.
  3. Verify that the pins inside the port are straight and aligned.
  4. Line up the end of the cable with the port opening.
  5. Press the cable firmly and straight into the port until it clicks into place.

If the cable does not seat on the first try, gently move it side to side until the end lines up with the port opening, then press straight down again.

If Peephole Cam 2K will not stay tight against your door

If Peephole Cam 2K moves or wobbles when you press on it, the nut that holds it in place needs tightening.

  1. Find the nut on the indoor side of the mounting post. This is the small metal ring that screws onto the post, sticking through the back of your door.
  2. Turn the nut clockwise until firm.
  3. Confirm that the metal rod is sticking out above the nut. If you cannot, the nut is not seated correctly. Back it off by turning anticlockwise and realign it with the post.
  4. If the nut feels stuck before going in, push it upward and into the peephole opening, then try tightening again.
  5. If the nut resists turning, back it off, realign it with the post, and try again.

How to fix wifi connection issues with Peephole Cam 2K

Peephole Cam 2K connects only to 2.4 GHz wifi networks and does not support 5 GHz. During setup, Peephole Cam 2K also uses Bluetooth to communicate with your mobile device. If Peephole Cam 2K will not connect to wifi during setup, check the following:

  1. Make sure you are joining a 2.4 GHz network rather than a 5 GHz one.
  2. Verify that Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device.
  3. Double-check that your wifi password is entered correctly. Wifi passwords are case-sensitive.
  4. Move your mobile device or router closer to the door during setup.

How to access the setup button if Peephole Cam 2K still will not connect

If Peephole Cam 2K still will not connect after working through these steps, you can access the setup button directly. Open the Ring app.

  1. Remove the faceplate from the outdoor assembly by applying firm, even pressure along the edges until it releases.
  2. Press the setup button and continue the setup process.
  3. Replace the faceplate when setup is complete.

How to fix an unresponsive Peephole Cam 2K

If your Peephole Cam 2K is not responding or the light ring does not activate, the battery likely needs a recharge.

  1. Firmly grasp the edges of the rear cover and pinch inward until it is released.
  2. Push the tab on the battery pack and pull it out of the housing.
  3. Charge the battery fully using the included USB-C cable.
  4. Slide the battery back into the compartment until you hear a click.
  5. Check that the light ring activates. This confirms Peephole Cam 2K has powered on.

If the battery is fully charged and Peephole Cam 2K is still unresponsive, make sure the battery is fully seated in its compartment and that the cable connector is securely snapped in. For steps on reseating the cable, review How to fix physical installation issues above.
