Using Remote Unlock with your Ring Intercom
With Remote Unlock, Ring Intercom allows you to unlock the entrance of your building from the Ring app, wherever you are.
Important: if you can only unlock the building entrance when someone buzzes your existing intercom, you have a ring-to-open system. You will not be able to use Remote Unlock unless someone has buzzed.
Please check if the following conditions apply and, if so, contact Ring Intercom Customer Support so they can manually set your device as ring-to-open:
- Your intercom opens one door or multiple doors with the same unlock button
- You can only unlock the building entrance when someone buzzes your existing intercom
- When sending an unlock via Ring app (without an incoming call), unlock notification shows as successful, but door is not opening or (if your intercom opens multiple doors with the same button) the wrong door is opening.
How to unlock your building entrance with Remote Unlock
For Ring Intercom users without a ring-to-open system:
- Tap the menu icon ☰ in the upper left corner of the app screen.
- TapDevices.
- Tap your Ring Intercom.
- TapUnlock Door.
For Ring Intercom users with a ring-to-open system:
- When someone buzzes at your building's entrance, you will receive a real-time alert from the Ring app via your smartphone or tablet.

How to set Unlock Duration
If your existing intercom is an analogue system, you can control how long your door is unlocked for, between 1 and 10 seconds.
- Tap the menu (☰) in the upper left corner of the app screen.
- TapDevices.
- Tap your Ring Intercom.
- TapDevice Settings.
- TapUnlock Duration(available for analogue intercom systems only)
- Set your unlock duration.
- Your setting will save automatically.
Note: If your lobby callbox configuration controls the unlock duration of the entrance, the Unlock Duration setting in the Ring app may not work.
