Take over a deceased or medically incapacitated person's account
Learn how to set up a Ring account or device that belongs to a deceased or medically incapacitated person.
If you would simply like to gain access to a device in order to set it up, you can follow the self-service process to transfer ownership from a previous owner.
In order to protect customer data, you’ll need to provide verification to Ring Customer Support to access their Ring account, including:
- Stored video recordings1
- Ring Alarm
- Subscription billing
Verification you'll need to provide to Ring Customer Support:
- A certified death certificate, and
- The email address associated with the account or the contact number on file. The MAC address (serial number) located on the device may be needed to help us authenticate the correct account, and
- Official certified documentation showing that you are the authorised person to access the decedent’s estate (e.g., a letter of appointment naming you as the executor of the decedent’s estate).
This documentation is required to ensure we only take action on the correct account, and account information is provided only to authorised persons with a legal entitlement to the information requested. The documents provided will be deleted after validation.
Please contact Ring Customer Support once you have the above documents and are ready to upload them.
