Transfer your Ring data to third parties
Under EU law, you have data portability rights which allow you to transfer your data from Ring to authorised third parties.
You can exercise these rights by using the tools described on this page. The tools allow you to view the data you have authorised for transfer and set parameters for how much data you want to share and how long you want to grant access.
Potential risks and consequences
Transferring your data to third parties who you don't know can result in the misuse of your data. To avoid misuse, we recommend only transferring your data to third parties that you trust after reading the privacy notices and policies available on their websites and applications, and understanding their data security practices.
After you've transferred your data to a third party, Ring will no longer have control or legal responsibility over how it might be handled. It is possible that your data may be altered, further transferred, traded, or sold by the third party.
Ring cannot submit data deletion requests to third parties on your behalf. If you wish to exercise your data privacy rights with any third party that has received your data, you'll need to contact them directly.
Transfer data directly
You can transfer data directly to third parties who have integrated with our Application Programming Interface (API) for this purpose. All applicable third parties have a button on their website or in their app, inviting you to share your Ring data with them.
This button will direct you to a secure Ring login page. After logging in, you can view the data types you can transfer. Depending on how much data you’d like to transfer, you can also select different date ranges. You can transfer your data once, or allow the third party to request transfers continuously over a specific time span.
Manage third-party access
After authorising a third party to receive your data, you can revoke their access to data transfers at any time.
To do this, visit Manage third-party access under Data management in Control Centre in the Ring app. Here, you can view the third parties that are currently authorised to view and obtain your data, see when their authorisation expires, and revoke third-party access to new data. You won’t be able to recover any data you have already transferred.
Download your data
To download your data:
- Log in to your account and navigate to the Data Management page in the Control Centre in the Ring app.
- From there, you can create a request to obtain a copy of your device data by selecting Download Device Data.
- You'll receive a confirmation email to let you know we've obtained your request and when you can expect your data will be ready to download.
- Once the data is available you'll receive another email with a secure link to a download page, from there you can download a copy of your data to share with any third parties of choice. We recommend only sharing this with third parties that you know and trust.
Types of data available for third-party sharing
Under EU law, you can choose to share your device data with third parties. If you give permission, authorised third parties will be able to download specific device information, including:
- Device location tracking data
- Data related to interactions with the Ring app and website
- Device settings information
- Ring alarm security system data
- Motion and Ring Events data
Note: Video data is not shared with third parties.
