Using Ring Intercom with Alexa
You can use Ring-compatible Amazon devices with your Ring Intercom to answer, unlock by voice, and create a Routine to play a voice alert.

Answering your Ring Intercom with Alexa
Your Ring Intercom lets you speak with visitors through Alexa-compatible devices.
To talk with a visitor:
- Say,"Alexa, answer Ring."
- Say,"Alexa, speak to [Intercom name]."
- Say,"Alexa, talk to [Intercom name]."
Important note: Replace [Intercom name] with what you named your Intercom during setup (such as "front door," "entrance," or "side door").
To end the conversation:
- Say,"Alexa, hang up."
- Say,"Alexa, exit."
- Say,"Alexa, stop."
- Say,"Alexa, quit."
Setting up Unlock by Voice for your Ring Intercom
Unlock your door with Ring Intercom by using voice commands through your Alexa-compatible device. Learn more about unlocking your door using Ring Intercom.
To turn on Unlock by Voice and create a voice code in the Alexa app:
- Tap thelightbulbicon (devices) at the bottom of the Alexa app.
- Select yourRing Intercomfrom the device list.
- Tap thegearicon (settings) in the top right.
- TapUnlock by Voice.
- Create your voice code when prompted.
Voice Commands:
- "Alexa, unlock [Intercom name]."
- "Alexa, open [Intercom name]."
Alexa will ask for your voice code to complete the action. If using an Echo Dot, end any two-way visitor conversations before giving unlock commands.
Important note: Replace [Intercom name] with what you named your device during setup (such as "front door," "entrance," or "side door").
Controlling Ring Intercom with your smartwatch
Control your building entrance from your smartwatch. Your Ring Intercom works with Alexa-compatible watches and allows you to unlock doors from your wrist.

- Samsung Galaxy Watch with Wear OS
Setting up your smartwatch
To link your Ring Intercom to an Alexa-compatible smartwatch, your watch must first be connected to the Alexa app.
To link your Ring Intercom to an Alexa-compatible smartwatch, connect your smartwatch to the Alexa app:
- Open the Amazon Alexa app, and go to the settings menu.
- At the top of the settings menu, selectAdd Device.
- Scroll down and select yourdevice type(i.e. smartwatch).
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
To link your smartwatch to your Ring Intercom:
- Open the Amazon Alexa app.
- Open the app menu, and tapSkills & Games.
- Use the search bar to search forRing. Tap to select.
- TapEnableto use the Ring Skill.
- Follow the prompts to sign in with your Ring account to link it with your Amazon account.
- Once the accounts are linked, tapDiscoverDevicesto sync your Ring Intercom with Alexa.
After your Ring Intercom has successfully synced, you can use an Alexa voice command on your watch to unlock your building entrance by saying, "Alexa, unlock [Intercom name]".
Viewing live video from your Ring Intercom Video
When your building's video intercom connects to Ring Intercom Video, you can see visitors on your Echo Show or Fire TV. Live video only works when someone calls your intercom.
Some Fire TV remotes use the same button for Alexa commands and mute functions. You can't use Alexa commands during an active call on these remotes. You must end the call before using Alexa to unlock the door. Without an active call, no video will show when you use Alexa commands.
Creating a Routine to play an Alexa voice alert from Ring Intercom
Use Alexa Routines to allow custom voice and sound alerts on your Alexa devices when an incoming call is received.
You can create a Routine to pause video content on Fire TV and have Alexa Fire TV say, "Someone is at your lobby" when an incoming call is detected.
In the Alexa app:
- Tap the three lines icon on the bottom navigation bar.
- Select theRoutinestile.
- Tap the+icon toCreate Routine.
- TapAdd an eventunder theWhensection.
- TapSmart Home.
- Select your Ring Intercom device from theChoose Devicescreen.
- TapSave.
- TapAdd an actionunder theAlexa Willsection.
- Choose which Fire TV device will complete the action.
- Choose which action Fire TV completes (e.g. Pause Video).
- TapNext.
- TapAdd an actionunder theAlexa Willsection.
- ChooseAlexa Says.
- ChooseCustomized.
- Enter the "Someone is at your lobby" response.
- TapNext.
- Choose the Fire TV device from which you want to hear that message.
- TapSave.
You can also add actions, such as playing an alert sound, using these steps.
