How to identify your device under the new name

The resolution in the new name matches your device's recording capability:

  • "2K"
indicates your device records in 2K resolution (2560 x 1440).
  • "4K"
indicates your device records in 4K resolution (3840 x 2160).

If your device was previously named with a generational label like "2nd Gen" or "3rd Gen," that label has been replaced by the resolution identifier. The tier name — Plus, Pro, or Elite — remains in the product name when applicable.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to do anything when the name changes?

No. The name update happens automatically across the Ring app, ring.com, and Ring Help. No action is required on your part.

Is my device getting new features or a software update with the name change?

No. The name change is cosmetic only. Your device hardware, firmware, and available features are not changing.

Why does my device packaging show a different name than the Ring app?

Devices purchased before the name change may have the previous name on the box. The device inside is the same product now listed under its new name in the Ring app.

Will my Ring Protect plan still work the same way?

Yes. Your Ring Protect subscription, video history, and all plan features are unaffected by the product name change.

What if I see the old name in some places and the new name in others?

During the transition period, you may briefly see the previous name in some locations while the new name appears in others. All references will be updated to the new name after launch.
