Ring Device Couldn't Connect to Wifi (Spectrum-provided Routers)

Certain models of Spectrum-provided wifi routers may block Ring devices from initial setup or from staying connected to wifi. This can happen when multiple devices are plugged into the router via Ethernet at the same time.

This article will guide you through the process of temporarily disconnecting all Ethernet devices from your router, which is the quickest way to solve the problem.

First time setup

Important: Do not unplug cords labeled Power, Internet, WAN, or Cable from your router.

  1. Unplug the three Ethernet cables on your router which may be labeled
    LAN
    or
    Ethernet.
  2. Follow the steps in the Ring app to set up your device.
  3. Once the device is set up, plug the disconnected cords back into the router.

Reconnection of a previously set up Ring device

  1. Unplug the three Ethernet cables on your router which may be labeled
    LAN or Ethernet.
  2. Reboot your Ring
    battery-powered device
    by removing the battery and reinserting it to prepare it for reconnection. For
    wired or plug-in devices
    , unplug the device from its power supply for two minutes, then plug it back in. The lights on your device may flash while it’s making updates for up to 10 minutes.
  3. Once the device stops flashing, check the Internet connection in the Ring app's
    screen. It can take 10 minutes for the device to show it’s connected.
  4. After the device is back online, plug your Ethernet cables back into the router.
